The book I’m reading was one of Chairman Mao’s favorites, and President Xi Jinping has repeatedly quoted from it in his speeches. Hanfeizi 韓非子, literally ‘Master Han Fei’, named after its author, the Prince of Han, is a classic. It was written over two thousand years ago during the Warring States period and, yet, page after page.   At one stage, the comic books from that era engaged in political criticism, targeting figures like Mao’s rivals and Confucius, whose writings Xi has resurrected.

Admitting that the Covid pandemic had a “huge impact” on the country’s economy, Xi used.   Author: Dr. Robert D. Eldridge, is the Director, Northeast Asia, for the Global Risk Mitigation Foundation. He is also a senior fellow at the Japan Strategic Studies Forum in Tokyo, is the former political advisor for the United States Marine Corps in Japan and the author of dozens of books on U.S.-Japan relations, including, "The Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force: Search for Legitimacy.

Chinese politics are at a crossroads as President Xi Jinping amasses personal power and tests the constraints of collective leadership. In the years since he became general secretary of the Chinese Communist Party in , Xi Jinping has surprised many people in China and around the world with his bold anti-corruption campaign and his aggressive consolidation of power/5. Xi Jinping intends to be the Leader of the “Second Hundred” just as Mao Zedong is regarded as the Leader of the “First Hundred”. This means the world will be dealing with President Xi Jinping for some time. It is, therefore, important to get a proper measure of the person.
